“Connection” is a new media art installation combining light, space, and music to create a dramatic three-dimensional representation of our inner emotions and the essence that binds us as human beings. In a time of ongoing global turmoil, mental health awareness has become more critical than ever. This installation seeks to further the conversation by exploring the duality of our unique perspectives and the universal emotions that connect us all.
At its core, Connection is an immersive experience that takes the audience through the shared cycle of human emotions. Using materials like glass, mirrors, metal, and light, the installation highlights the complexity of perception, reflection, and interaction. Each person who encounters the work experiences it from a slightly different perspective, yet remains connected by the same stream of emotions and the shared human journey.

Exploring Perception & Connection
One of the installation’s key themes is perspective. Every audience member views the work from a unique angle, influenced by their own experiences and emotions. Despite these differences, Connection emphasizes the shared stream of life and emotions that unite us all.
By combining the tangible (materials, light, and sound) with the intangible (emotions and perception), the work bridges the gap between individuality and collective humanity. It invites viewers to reflect on their own emotions, while recognizing the common threads that link us all.
The Role of Music & Light
Music and lighting play a pivotal role in Connection, working together to portray the cyclical nature of human emotions. The performance takes the audience through six key emotional stages:
(1) Birth – The spark of life, represented by soft, growing light and gentle, hopeful melodies.
(2) Curiousity – A sense of wonder, expressed through shifting, multicolored lights and playful musical tones.
(3) Passion – Vibrant and intense, with bold light patterns and powerful musical crescendos.
(4) Frustration – Sharp, erratic lighting and discordant sounds evoke the tension of struggle.
(5) Loneliness – Dim, muted lighting and somber tones reflect isolation and introspection.
(6) Hopefulness – A gradual return to brighter, harmonious light and uplifting music, symbolizing renewal.
This narrative cycle repeats, mirroring the way emotions flow and return in life, connecting us on a metaphysical level.
Materials & Symbolism
The installation uses a combination of materials to represent both individuality and interconnectedness:
Glass and Acrylic: These materials symbolize peering outward and seeing the world through personal lenses, offering a slight reflection to suggest self-awareness and the influence of perspective.
Mirrors: Representing introspection, mirrors invite the audience to look inward and confront their own emotions and thoughts.
Metal: Used to absorb shadows, metal embodies the grounding elements of our existence—the weight of reality that contrasts with the ephemeral qualities of light and reflection.
Light: A central element, light represents the influences that pass through and reflect off of us. It serves as a metaphor for connection, illuminating both individual uniqueness and shared experiences.
A Shared Emotional Journey
Connection is not just an art installation—it’s a shared experience. Through its dynamic interplay of light, space, and music, it reminds us that while our perspectives may differ, we are all part of the same emotional cycle. In a time when mental health and global unity are pressing topics, Connection serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience and beauty of our shared humanity.
